How to increase the timeout values for Microsoft Exchange Service resources in Storage Foundation HA for Windows

Solution

In some environments, the default timeout values for Microsoft Exchange Services to online may not be sufficient to allow the resources to fully online and initialize. The default timeout before the resource reports an "unknown" state is ten seconds. A similar problem may exist during the offline process, causing the resource to report a status of "unknown."

To increase the Start or Stop timeout values, perform the following steps (Figure 1):

1.   Open the registry editor
2.   Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\VCS\ExchConfig\Parameters\
3.   Create a new key equal to the service name, possible key names are:
msExchangeSA
msExchangeIS
msExchangeMTA
msExchangeMGMT
ReSvc
4.  Under the newly created key, create a new DWORD value and set the Value Name to StartTimeout or StopTimeout
5.  Set the Value Data equal to the timeout value desired

The new timeout values will take effect upon the next online or offline of the protocol resource and only on the node on which the registry key was created.
