Solution

During the creation of a backup job in Backup Exec 9.x and later, the selections window could show no available items to choose for backup.

Possible reasons are listed below:

  • The Backup Exec Job Engine and/or Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service is stopped.
  • The Media server only has the default loopback IP address. (For example 169.x.x.x)
  • The Backup Exec Service Account that is being used by the Backup Exec services either:
a. does not have the ALLOW LOG ON LOCALLY policy applied to the Backup Exec Service Account.
-or-
b. is a member of a sub-group that denies the option for ALLOW LOG ON LOCALLY. Remote Operators is an example of such a policy.

To resolve the issue:

  • Make sure that the media server has a routable IP address.
  • Ensure that all of the Backup Exec services are started.
  • Ensure that groups that the Backup Exec service account is a member of are not subgroups of a restrictive group.
