Backup Exec 11d Live Update reports an error "LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the update list"


LU1814:LiveUpdate could not retrieve the update list


LU1814:Host could not be found.

LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec Products and components updates. Please verify that you are able to connect to the internet and run LiveUpdate again.


This happens when the Backup Server cannot connect to the specified host. The most common reasons for this problem are : 

Hosts file entries are preventing LiveUpdate from connecting.

  • The S32LUHL1.dll file may be present.
  • The Settings.LiveUpdate file is corrupt.
  • Damaged files in the \Downloads folder (windows temporary download folder).
  • LiveUpdate is not allowed to access the LiveUpdate server.
  • Specified LiveUpdate Administrator server is not available to the Backup Server.
  • Incomplete install of LiveUpdate.
  • Local Permissions denied for LiveUpdate to run on the Backup Server.
  • The settings for LiveUpdate to connect to the Internet are incorrect.

Steps mentioned in the following article can be performed as a workaround to the solution. 

This issue is cosmetic in nature and does not inhibit the LiveUpdate functions.

There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time.
