Status code 0x80000011 is reported by vxdmp or vxio in Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows

Error

The IRP () is failing with error status (80000011) after VxDMP has attempted to send it through all connected
paths.

Solution

0x80000011 is a standard driver status return code for STATUS_DEVICE_BUSY.
Although it may be reported by VxDMP (Veritas Dynamic Multipathing) or vxio (the Storage Foundation for Windows dynamic disk driver), the error code is not specific to Storage Foundation and may occur whether or not Storage Foundation is present. Most driver status return codes can be translated by using an internet search engine.
Note: The identity of the process that is generating this request is not passed to vxdmp or vxio. Because of this, it is not possible for Symantec Technical Support to determine the application that is generating the I/O Request Packets (IRPs).

Under what scenario are these messages generated?
The message may occur if any of the following conditions are true:

A) The disk array is performing a large amount of I/O and is unable to accept new IRPs at this time (it is busy).
An event that affected the storage area network (SAN) has caused IRP failures. In some cases, these errors may persist until the affected host is rebooted.

B) There is a problem with the configuration of host bus adapter (HBA).
The following settings may assist:
Emulex HBAs
"Translate Queue full" to busy should be disabled.

QLogic HBAs
"Enable Target Reset" should be enabled.

C) There is a problem with the configuration of the Disk Array

For example, on Hitachi 9500 series disk arrays
"Reset Target Mode" should be Enabled
"Reset Logical Unit Mode" should be Enabled
"Reset Logout of Third Party Process Mode" should be Enabled
Note: A reboot may be required before these changes will take affect.

D) There is a hardware problem with host bus adapter (HBA).

E) An IRP was addressed to a logical unit number (LUN) that has already been reserved by another server.
A process in the application layer is usually the source of these events. In this case, the errors can be usually be ignored.

Further Details
The scenario is noted where VxDMP reports this message when servicing an application request on a server however the disk is reserved by another node.  Its possible that these messages can be suppressed in this scenario.
From Storage Foundation for Windows 4.3 MP1 and later versions, VxDMP code changed to include the ability to suppress these messages in this situation.  In cluster situations it is not possible to have the application running on both cluster nodes at one time, these messages should be investigated for possible issues.
Refer to the TechNote 285566 for more details on messages received by the Storage Foundation for Windows drivers.
