vxverify.exe - a utility to verify all plexes of a mirrored volume are synchronized in Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows

Solution

The vxverify utility will verify all plexes of a mirrored volume are in sync. Run this utility from a command line. Vxverify will run against all supported versions of VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) and VERITAS Storage Foundation (tm) for Windows.  If vxverify confirms the plexes are not in sync,  follow the instructions in TechNote 272795.  After applying the fixed version of vxio.sys or upgrading to VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.2 for Windows, the mirror should be broken and recreated to completely resynchronize the plexes.

How to obtain the utility:

1. Click on the Download Now link at the bottom of this TechNote
2. In the File Download popup box, click the Save button
3. Choose a location to download the file and click Save
4. Browse to the location where the file was saved. Double click the file to begin the extraction process
5. Choose a location to extract the files and click Extract
6. Once the files have been extracted, click OK on the "All files have been extracted" notification prompt
7. Review the Readme.txt file for specific instructions

Usage: vxverify [-v] [-g diskgroup] volume-name [[offset] length]

Use:   Use this command to verify that all the plexes of a mirrored volume are in sync

Example: vxverify -v -g TestDG1 TestDGVol2 will show similar output if plexes match:

Read plex TestDGVol1-01,0,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,0,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-01,128,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,128,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-01,256,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,256,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-01,384,116
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,384,116

If the plexes do not match, output similar to the following will display:

Read plex TestDGVol1-01,0,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,0,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-01,128,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,128,128
Block 237: Mirror 0 and Mirror 1 do not match
Read plex TestDGVol1-01,256,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,256,128
Read plex TestDGVol1-01,384,116
Read plex TestDGVol1-02,384,116

Variation: Do not use -v if you do not require a verbose output
