Problem
MSCSRvgResourceEx.dll and Vxresext.dll is not registered during an upgrade from Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows 4.3 Maintenance Pack 1 and Maintenance Pack 2 to Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows 5.0 for a Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS)
Solution
Description
During an upgrade from Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) 4.3 Maintenance Pack 1 and Maintenance Pack 2 to SFW 5.0, the Veritas Product Installer (VPI) fails to register MSCSRvgResourceEx.dll and Vxresext.dll with the Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS). This may result in the following symptoms:
- The MSCS Volume Manager Disk Group (VMDG) resource disappears after the upgrade is complete.
- The MSCS Replicated Volume Group (RVG) resource disappears after the upgrade is complete.
- The MSCS RVG resource faults, or is taken offline, after the upgrade is complete.
- An error message appears, stating that MSCSRvgResourceEx.dll could not be found.
Solution
To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:
1. For MSCS only, run clusreg.cmd. This file is located under the following path:
%vmpath%vm5inf
Note: By default for 32 bit version of SFW, this path is equal to C:\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas Volume Manager 5.0\VM5INF.
Note: By default for 64 bit versions of SFW, this path is equal to C:\Program Files (x86)\Veritas\Veritas Volume Manager 5.0\VM5INF.
2. If Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR) is installed, type the following from a Windows command prompt:
Note: This step is not necessary unless VVR is installed.
regsvr32.exe /s "%VMPATH%MSCSRvgResourceEx.dll"
cluster.exe /REGEXT:MSCSRvgResourceEx.dll
