Hotfix for Symantec Enterprise Vault 7.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) with Microsoft Exchange 2007 Journal sampling via Symantec Compliance Accelerator Journal Connector

Solution

Description of Problem
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 introduced a new process for dealing with journaled messages that are sent to distribution lists and individual addressees. In these situations a message is duplicated in the journal Inbox - one message represents the distribution list recipients and one message represents the remaining recipients.

Symantec Engineering has discovered an issue when using Enterprise Vault for Microsoft Exchange 7.0 SP1, whereby Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 journaled messages containing a distribution list AND individual addressees are archived, some recipients are not added to the data that is used to index the item.

This causes the following issue with Symantec Compliance Accelerator:

  • False deduplication of Exchange 2007 messages
