Fix for Storage Foundation for Windows 5.0 (SFW) running on Windows 2003, 32-bit or 64-bit, where trace files grow without bound and consumes all the disk space on the hard drive where SFW is installed.

Solution

Trace files grow without bound, though the MAXLOGFILESIZE limit is specified in the registry. This will result in the trace files growing to consume all of the disk space on the hard drive where SFW is installed.

This is caused by the MAXLOGFILESIZE entry being the type REG_SZ and SFW reads this as the type DWORD and the calculation comes out be incorrect.  The fix can be downloaded below to correct the REG_SZ  type to REG_DWORD for MAXLOGFILESIZE for StorageAgent, Gridnode, Actionagent, and VXSVC service. This fix is also included in SFW, SFW-HA, and Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) for NetApp SnapMirror 5.0 Rollup Patch 1a (RP1a). For more information about RP1a, please refer to the Related Documents section below.

Installation Procedure:

1. From the folder where the download was extracted to, run the command maxlogfilesize_fix.cmd from the 32-bit or 64-bit folder depending on the version of the Windows 2003 operating system that is installed.

Note: This fix has not been fully tested. It is recommended the fix be evaluated in a test environment before implementing it in a production environment. When the fix is incorporated into a Storage Foundation for Windows maintenance release, the resulting fix must be installed as soon as possible.
