Verify Oracle database meets requirements for CommandCentral Enterprise Reporter (CC ER)

Solution

CC ER Oracle database instance requirements are specific.
The Oracle Database instance:
  • ORACLE 10.2.0.3 Standard or Enterprise edition - Enterprise preferred.
  • An instance and database, preferably named CCER:
  •   o 300 processes
  •   o Dedicated mode
  •   o AL32UTF8 character set
  •   o AL16UTF16 national character set
  •   o 500 M or larger SGA
  • CC ER does not presently using flash recovery.
  • CC ER suggests the DBA create a database running archive log mode.
  • The instance can be running on a different host.
  • Use saharaTablespaces.sql to create tablespaces  (replace $TABLESPACE_PATH as described in the file)
  • Use sahara.sql to create the CC ER Schema
  • Access to a DBA account is required during CC ER installation only. It will be used to create the CC ER schema.

Client:

ORACLE 10.2.0.3 client should be installed on the ER server host. The client install must include:

  • SQL*Plus
  • SQL*Loader
  • JDBC libraries
  • TNS configured for access.

On a running installation of Oracle the DBA will need to create the CC ER tablespaces by extracting and running the saharaTablespaces.sql  script.
  • Open and edit the saharaTablespaces.sql file by finding the $TABLESPACE_PATH token and replacing it with the fully qualified path of the directory that will contain the database files.
  • Replace the token by adding the following line near the top of the file:
  • define tablespacePath =pathname
  • Run the tablespace creation script by typing the following command:
  • sqlplus sys/password@ccer as sysdba @saharaTablespaces.sql

Note:  Where sys and password are the database credentials and ccer is the instance name.

Verify Oracle database meets requirements
Download the Perl script oracleinstancecheck.pl from within the compressed file scripts_290883.zip below to verify the Oracle instance meets these requirements

Run the Perl script prior to installing ER.

usage: perl oracleinstancecheck.pl [--tns TNS name ] [--username user] [--password password] [--oracle_home ORACLE_HOME]

--tns TNS name. Specify TNS name for CC ER Oracle instance.

--username Specify the username to use for connecting with CC ER Oracle instance. User must have DBA privilege

--password Specify the password to use

--oracle_home Specify the ORACLE_HOME directory

Run it

perl oracleinstancecheck.pl --tns <TNS entry> <--username Oracle user with dba permissions> <--password Oracle user password> <--oracle_home path specified in $ORACLE_HOME folder>
For example:

bash-2.05# perl oracleinstancecheck.pl --tns saharaer --username system --password password --oracle_home /opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1/
