Solution



Backup of shadow copy components using Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers fails with the above error message.

Backup job log reports the following:

 
Final error: 0x80042318 - 0x80042318 (2147754776)
 
Final error category: Other Errors

Resolution
 
Check the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) writer status by running the command VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS. For additional information refer to the Related Documents section at the bottom of this document.
 
Review the output and ensure that the writers are all showing a State of "[1] Stable" and that Last Error is showing "No error."
 
In case the issue remains unresolved and the writer continues to show failed status, please contact Microsoft for assistance.
