Backup hangs on verify portion of job prompting for a specific tape when the number of tapes used to write the backup exceeds the number of tapes in the robotic library.

Solution

When all tapes for one job cannot be housed in the library at once, the backup job will prompt for specific media during the verify portion of the job.

Backup Exec is not aware of the tape labels that are imported into the library until an inventory is performed. Since a manual inventory job cannot be performed while a backup job is running, the Auto-inventory after import is completed option must be activated.

How to import a tape and have Backup Exec recognize the label on the tape.

1. Click on the Devices tab.
2. Click on the plus sign next to the name of the robotic library you are using for the backup job.
3. Click on Slots.
4. Right click on the slot that will be housing the tape that is being imported.
5. Click on Import Media > Options > Auto-inventory after import is completed > Run Now.

Once Backup Exec imports the media, it runs an auto-inventory on the tape to discover the label information on the tape and the backup job will continue.
