Mega-RAID or SCSI drives not detected in Symantec Recovery Disk (SRD)

Solution

Storage Controller (and volumes associated with the Storage Controller)  is not detected in Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) 7.0 Symantec Recovery Disk, even though the volumes and controller was detected in BESR 6.5 Symantec Recovery Disk.  BESR 7.0 SRD is based off of Vista WinPE.  BESR 6.5 SRD is based off of 2003 WinPE.  In a few cases, different drivers may be needed for BESR 7.0 SRD.   If a driver is not supported in Vista, it is possible that the .inf file may actually have a line that specifically blocks it from loading in a Vista environment.  Most drivers do not specifically block Vista.  The storage controller may not be supported under Windows Vista.  If the storage controller is not supported in Windows Vista, and is explicitly blocked in the .inf, it also will not work in BESR 7.0 SRD because the WinPE version of 7.0 SRD is based off of Windows Vista.

Create a Custom SRD with Vista drivers from the manufacturer.  If there are no Vista drivers available, and the .inf is blocking the usage on Vista, a user may try deleting the line and adding the driver (at user's own discretion).  Or, if drivers are not available for Vista, contact the manufacturer about obtaining Vista drivers.
