Evaluation copy of BESR has been installed and I can't see where to change the license under the Help menu.

Solution



I am not able to update from an evaluation, trial or temporary SLF file to a non evaluation SLF in BESR 7.0 To resolve this issue there are two options:
1. Stop the BESR Service located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools\Services. Or Right click on My Computer | Manage | Services and Applications | Services.  In the Services window navigate till you find a service called Backup Exec System Recovery, stop this service. 
 
Then using the Windows Explorer, navigate to the following location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Licenses.  This is where the SLF flie is located and needs to be deleted from the system. If there is more then one SLF file, you will need to right click on each one and open using Note Pad to find out which one is for BESR.  Look for a line starting with <product_name> 
 
Once you have deleted the SLF file from the license folder, you can start the Backup Exec System Recovery service again. Once the service has re-started, open up BESR and click on the Help menu, you should see an option for adding a license file. 
 
2. The other option is to allow the eval, trial or temporary license to time out.  Once the license has timed out, the option will be available to assign a new license.
