When trying to manually archive an item in MS Outlook, users receive the following message :"An error occurred while processing the selected item 0x80070005 : Access is denied".

Error

An error occurred while processing the selected item 0x80070005 : Access is denied

Solution

When trying to manually archive an item in MS Outlook users receive the following message :"An error occurred while processing the selected item 0x80070005 : Access is denied". DCOM has been disabled on the workstations where users receive this error. Enterprise Vault (EV) enabled users who have the full client installed, need to have DCOM enabled on their workstations. To check if DCOM has been disabled follow the steps below:

1. Click Start| Run then type 'Dcomcnfg'
2. Click on Component Services/Computers/My Computer
3. Right click on 'My Computer' and select Properties/ Default Properties
4. "Enable Distributed COM on this computer" needs to be selected
5. Once it's been enabled, restart MS Outlook and try to manually archive again

If DCOM has been disabled by Active Directory Group Policy or the client is enabled for DCOM and the error message still appears, the workaround is to turn on "Self Install Functions" in the mailbox policy using the Vault Administration Console (VAC) which will allow users to run the full client in lite client mode (which uses http). After the policy change is made, synchronize mailboxes and restart MS Outlook.
