Error EBAB0005 received when creating a recovery point with Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR)/Symantec System Recovery (SSR) on a system with encrypted volumes

Error

Error EBAB0005: Encryption enabled on volume or specific files or folders

Solution

Backup Exec System Recovery/Symantec System Recovery cannot backup encrypted files, folders, or volumes. In order to perform a backup, the objects will need to be decrypted prior to the start of the backup job. The backup of the volume will continue in some cases but may cause additional issues if the recovery point is restored. In addition to the error, a hang may also occur during the initial snapshot if BESR/SSR cannot get access to the volume. Encryption was designed to protect the system from unauthorized access. BESR/SSR cannot bypass encryption and needs total access to the disk in order to take a snapshot.
