When attempting to deploy from the Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) console to a remote client system a recovery agent, the attempt fails with error: "Login failed: unknown username or wrong password."

Cause



Observation:

 

    Using the Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) console to deploy a recovery agent to a remote client system  the following error occurs:


 

      Agent cannot be implemented on <computername>.
      Agent cannot be implemented on <computername>.
      <computername>, An exception occurred: Connection to remote computer not possible.
      Login failed: unknown username or wrong password.

    The following conditions are also true:


 

    - The remote client system meets system requirements specified for the product version being used:
     - The remote client and BESR console are on the same subnet and same domain.
    - The BESR console system login account is that of a domain administrator.
    - Any software level firewalls or security software on BESR console or remote agent has made exceptions following the steps outline in the following technote:  http://support.veritas.com/docs/294526
     - Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 has been already installed on the remote client system.

Solution



To resolve this issue, make sure to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) when asked for the user credentials during the installation. If the issue persist please review the technotes in the related document section below for additional troubleshooting suggestions.
