Issue

When opening an image file set with Backup Exec Exchange Retrieve (BEER), the error message "Unable to find version information" occurs

Error

Unable to find version information

Solution

This is due to Backup Exec Exchange Retrieve (BEER) not being able to find the v2i file references inside the sv2i file when being opened in the BEER console. By default, Backup Exec System Recovery creates image files and uses a default convention for image file names of computername_driveletter_imagefilenumber. For example, XP-CLIENT_D_Drive01.v2i and XP-CLIENT.sv2i for a image file set. If the file name is changed from the default either during image files creation or after the fact, Backup Exec Exchange Retrieve is not able to align the index file and the image file that the index file points to causing an error message of "Unable to find version information".

To resolve this issue:

1. Create a new recovery point set using the default image file naming convention through Backup Exec System Recovery.

2. Modify the existing image file names (v2i files) to the default naming convention. Open the *.sv2i file in a text editor and find the references to the image files that are part of the same image file set. Change the v2i file names referenced to the default names that the image file names were changed to. Save the sv2i file.

Once the image files are named back to the default naming convention, Backup Exec Exchange Retrieve will correctly open the image file set.
