Error

"EBAB00CC: Unable to continue due to lack of memory"

Environment

Windows based systems.

Cause

Since this error occurs while performing various tasks within this product please review and follow the steps listed under the specific task below. If the steps listed for the task does not remedy the issue where this error persist please contact Symantec Technical Support for assistance.

Solution

Error occurs during a backup operation:

  1. Best practice steps
  • Be sure that the amount of Physical system memory is available at the time of backup. For the amount of memory needed please refer to the, 'User guide,' for the specific version being use.
  • Lower the number of concurrent processes running at the time of the backup or schedule the backup to run during low memory and disk utilization.
  1. Troubleshooting:
  • Stop and restart the system recovery service within Windows Services and attempt the backup job again. If the service fails to restart, the server will need to be rebooted which will often allow the next scheduled backup to complete successfully.
  • Verify that there are no partition errors on any of the disks attempted to be backup. Run the PARTINFO.EXE utility located is the \Program Files\Symantec\<system_recovery_product>\Utilities and review the PARTINFO.TXT file generated within this sub-folder for partition errors/warnings (i.e. WARNING:  Above partition extends beyond end of disk.). If warnings or errors are present correct these errors prior to next backup attempt. NOTE: Some partition errors may not be correctable; prior to performing any partition table operation copy the contents from this partition to another storage location.

Error occurs during a restore operation:

  1. Best practice steps
  • Be sure that the system contains or exceeds the amount of memory needed by the System Recovery Disk (SRD). For the amount of memory needed please refer to the, 'User guide,' for the specific version being use.
  • Be sure the disk or available unallocated space the recovery point image is being restore to has a capacity that is, at minimum, 1/6th the original capacity of the original disk or partition plus it's used space. If that amount of space is not available a larger capacity drive or more free space must be used as a restore target.

Example :
Used space from the original partition or disk was  = 50GB
Capacity of the original disk or partition was = 600 GB
Smallest disk or unallocated space the image can be restored to then is = (600Gb/6 + 50GB) = (100GB + 50GB) = 150GB

  1. Troubleshooting:
  • Remove the options (if enabled) from within the recovery job:"Verify recovery point before restore", "Check for file system errors after recovery", and  "Resize restored drive."
  • Copy the recovery point to a local drive to bypass buffering issues caused by network congestion.
