Problem
How to generate debug logs on a NetWare server when performing backups using the Remote Agent for NetWare Servers (RANW)
Solution
The Remote Agent for NetWare Servers contains built in diagnostic software to assist in troubleshooting issues when using the agent. The resulting log files are usually necessary during the troubleshooting process.
Remote Agent Log
Remote Agent Log
To generate diagnostic information on the server that is running the Remote Agent for NetWare Servers, perform the following:
a. Unload the remote agent by typing BESTOP at the server console prompt.
b. At the server console prompt, type BESTART -ZL to enable debug mode on the server
c. When testing is complete, stop the agent with the BESTOP command and restart in normal mode with the BESTART command.
The following debug reports are generated:
In SYS:\BKUPEXEC\LOG\
NDMPD.LOG
In SYS:\BKUPEXEC\
BKUPEXEC.LOG
BESTOP.LOG
Environment Checking
Along with generating debug logs, the BEDIAG.FAX and CONFIG.TXT files are two additional logs which can assist in troubleshooting.
Typing LOAD BEDIAG at the system console generates the SYS:\BKUPEXEC\BEDIAG.FAX file.
Typing LOAD CONFIG at the system console generates the SYS:\SYSTEM\CONFIG.TXT file.
