Issue

Remote Agent for Linux and UNIX Servers (RALUS) may crash at the start of the backup of an x64 bit Linux Server

Error

Final error: 0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer.

Cause

When backing up an x64 bit Linux server and the Pre-scan Option is selected at Tools/Options/Preferences/ Display Progress Indicators for backup jobs, Ralus will crash before any data is backed up.

In review of core file Ralus is crashing in wcslen () from /lib64/libc.so.6.

Solution

Upgrade to Backup Exec 12.0 or above.  For more information about upgrading, review the following document:

How to obtain the installation source download and license keys for Backup Exec for Windows Servers and components

Work-around:

Once the option "Display Progress Indicators for backup jobs" has been unchecked at Tools/Options/Preferences, the backup can be rerun and will complete without Ralus crashing.
