Using Sun's MPXIO for path management with VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.1 for Solaris

Solution

Symantec recommends using the Dynamic Multipathing (DMP) that comes bundled with VERITAS Storage Foundation whenever possible because a system running the full VERITAS Storage Foundation stack is inherently simpler to configure, manage, and troubleshoot than a system running VERITAS Storage Foundation and a third party multi-pathing driver.

Symantec also supports using Sun's MPXIO multi-pathing driver to manage paths to supported Sun branded storage with VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.1 for Solaris. Refer to the current version of the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for VERITAS Storage Foundation 4.1 for Solaris for the list of currently supported Sun storage arrays.
Default settings for DMP should be used for configuration where MPXIO will be used for path management. MPXIO exposes only a single path to DMP, therefore DMP will not attempt to manage path failover. Setting DMP functional options is not required nor advisable as these options are irrelevant when used with a device managed by MPXIO.
Consult Sun Support for the correct settings to use with MPXIO on the specific array in your configuration.
