Multiple Backup Errors occurs because SymSnap.Sys fails to load after the boot.ini file is modified

Error

Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery or LiveState Recovery are installed.  An attempt to create a backup is made, fails, and multiple errors occurs.  When it is verified as to which drivers are loaded, SymSnap.Sys is not loaded.

Environment

 Windows

Cause

This is caused by an incompatible configuration within the Boot.ini file. Within this file there is the following entry:
/Kernel=<kernel filename>.exe

Solution

In order for the product to function properly, the kernel filename must be ntoskrnl.exe.  If a Boot Screen Manager Program has been installed, such as StyleXp, disable the Boot screen Component of that program.
