"Install Failed" error message shown by Symantec LiveState Recovery Manager console when attempting to deploy a LiveState Recovery Advance server Agent-only package, after deploying the LiveState Delivery Agent for Windows was successful.

When attempting to deploy a LiveState Recovery (LSR) Advance server Agent-only package to a Windows 2003 server client system from the Symantec LiveState Recovery Manager (LSRM) console, you get the error that the Install Failed, although the LiveState Delivery Agent for Windows deployment was successful .

    Cannot start script execution.

- SMECLNT login issues using custom SMECLNT account (i.e. not using SMECLNT user name).

- All servers are on separate subnet, the LSRM console was able to push agents to other systems successfully.

- After deployment of the LiveState Delivery Agent for Windows, install appears to take longer then normal and the LSR client system did not reboot on its own.

- Able to access the C$ & admin$ shared from the LSRM console system & LSRM server system.


At this time there is no single solution to this issue. Please follow the suggestions listed below to assist in troubleshooting this issue.

    - Update to the most recent build for both the Symantec LiveState Recovery (LSR) client and LiveState Recovery Manager (LSRM) server. To obtain recent updates login to FileConnect:  https://fileconnect.symantec.com for assistance in obtaining the latest update or to obtain FileConnect assistance please contact Customer Care:   http://www.symantec.com/business/support/assistance_care_pop.jsp 

    - Install locally both the LSRM server and LSR client locally; not through a remote desktop or terminal server session.

    - Follow the install and management procedures discussed in the Symantec LiveState Recovery Manager 6.0 Implementation Guide, Appendix A: Alternate methods for managing Symantec LiveState Recovery located in the documents sub-folder on the  LSRM 6.02 product CD.

    - If the 'My documents' folder being hosted on a network drive on the LSR client changed it back to point to a local My documents sub-folder.

    - Windows auto admin logon been disabled.

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.


    (1) Change the HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsnt\current version\winlogon\autoadminlogon key's REG_SZ value to 0
    (2) Deleted the default user name and password use by this account.

Warning: Be sure that an administrator account credentials has been established / created before rebooting the client system.


    - Used the c:\_integra\bin\datool.exe -x and rebooted before reinstall attempt.

    - Use the MS installer clean up utility  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301   to see any fragments of LSR install on the client system.
