Problem

If Microsoft Exchange 2007 is installed on a Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 Server and Granular Restore Technology (GRT) backups are performed, the backups complete with exceptions because the correct version of Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects is not installed

Error

V-79-57344-4615 - To support individual mailbox message and folder restores from the Information Store Backups, you must download and install the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package version 06.05.7888 or later on the Exchange 2007 server.

V-79-57344-38756 - To support individual mailbox message and folder restores from Information Store backups on virtual machine 'MACHINE, you must download and install the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package version 06.05.7888 or later on the Exchange 2007 server. This package can be found on the Microsoft web site.

Solution

Microsoft has released an updated version (Version 1.2.1) of Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects (MAPI CDO) . It can be obtained here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=e17e7f31-079a-43a9-bff2-0a110307611e&displaylang=en

Once the updated package has been downloaded the current installation of MAPI/CDO will need to be uninstalled and then the new version installed.

The new version of MAPI/CDO will not properly upgrade the prior version.

Attempts to upgrade the prior version of MAPI/CDO will report as successful but the installed components will not be updated.

The older version of MAPI/CDO will have to be uninstalled and the new version installed.

Note: A reboot of the server may be required, after removing or updating any server application.
