Problem
DOCUMENTATION: Global and client settings to capture prior to an upgrade to NetBackup 6.5.
Solution
Manual:
Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.5 Installation Guide for Windows, Page: 19
Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.5 Installation Guide for UNIX and Linux, Page: 49
Modification Type: Supplement.
Modification:
When upgrading from NetBackup 5.x to NetBackup 6.5, in some customer environments, some of the global and client configuration settings stored on the master server are reset to the default settings. If these settings are critical to the operation of NetBackup in the environment being upgraded, NetBackup support recommends creating copies of the information in the event it is reset to defaults.
The settings which have in some instances been reset are the Global and Client Attributes. These are found on the master server by opening the NetBackup Administrative Console, and under NetBackup Management, opening Host Properties and Master Servers (see images below)
Figure 1: Global Attributes
Figure 2: Client Attributes
To capture the settings in these two sections, use the bpconfig and the bpclient commands and send their output to a text file.
Outputting the Global and Client Attributes to a text file:

To capture the settings in these two sections, use the bpconfig and the bpclient commands and send their output to a text file.
Outputting the Global and Client Attributes to a text file:
1. From a command prompt,
navigate to the /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd directory (UNIX/Linux)
or to the <install_path>\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd directory
(Windows) and run the following command:
bpconfig
-L > global_attributes.txt
2. While still in the
admincmd directory, run the following command:
bpclient
-All -L > client_attributes.txt
Once these two text files are created, move them to a new location outside of the NetBackup directory structure. Retain them until after the upgrade is completed and the environment is running correctly.
For additional information on the use of the bpconfig and the bpclient commands, refer to the NetBackup commands guides (in the Related Documents section below).
