Issue

Unable to configure Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery and Symantec System Recovery to write directly to tape.

Solution

All versions of Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery cannot use a tape drive as a storage location - the product can only write to disk, whether that be a local fixed disk, a removable disk, a NAS or a network share.

To store recovery points on tape, create a recovery point and save it to the storage location, then transfer the recovery point to a tape drive using an application capable of writing files to tape (such as Symantec Backup Exec for Windows). To restore from the recovery point stored on tape, copy the file back to a local or network drive before restoring.
