Issue

During Disk Staging Storage Unit (DSSU) relocation jobs, large images fail to be relocated due to random media read errors. This results in the job ending with a status 191.

Error

<16> server_1: STSImageManager: read() failed on image file Z:\client_1197237826_C1_F10.1197237826.img (error=1450, Unknown error)

Solution

Reviewing the NetBackup BPDM log (<install path>\veritas\NetBackup\logs\bpdm\) shows a Microsoft system error 1450 and an underlying media read error Status 85 is seen in the bpdm log. (bolded for clarity):

The Microsoft error=1450 indicates the OS ran out of available paged pool memory.

The two causes of this problem are related. The more frequent cause is listed first:
• More files are open than the operating system memory cache manager can handle. As a result, the cache manager has exhausted the available paged pool memory.
• The backup program has tried to back up a file whose size is larger than the backup API can access on that version of the operating system. This has the same result of exhausting the available paged pool memory.

Please refer to Microsoft's Q article 304101 for complete details and resolution.
