A restore job directed to an unallocated partition fails with error EC8F178F.

Problem



While restoring a v2i file, if a logical unallocated partition is selected as the destination, the above mentioned errors occur. It also produces the error:
 
"Impossible de lire des données à partir du point de récupération. Erreur E0BB0087 : Impossible de créer la partition."
 
"Erreur E0BB0128 : Les partitions MBR se chevauchent. Détails : 0xE0BB0087 Source : Norton Save & Restore"
 
While selecting a primary unallocated partition as destination, the restore job produces the following errors:

When both the primary and the logical unallocated partitions are selected as the destination, service crashes.
 
This problem occurs only on a French OS.
 
At times, if the image is restored on an unallocated space and a drive letter assigned, the restoration is successful. However in the Disk manager, the drive letter is not  assigned and in the console, it still shows as unallocated. The restore succeeds, but it fails to mount the drive.

Cause



The problem occurs due to disk layout of the volumes and the behavior of the operating system.
 

Solution



 
Workaround:
 
Delete and recreate the partitions.
 
In case the unallocated space does not show in the recovery environment, create a partition, either in Windows, or using the command prompt and then run the restore job.
