Error "0xe0000340 - The Database script returned an error. Refer to the Database script output section in job logs for more details" appears when restoring the Oracle Database version 10.2.0.3 Control files of the AL32UTF8 database character set

Error

Final error: 0xe0000340 - The Database script returned an error. Refer to the Database script output section in job logs for more details.

The job log reports the following error (Figure 1) when restoring the Oracle Database version 10.2.0.3 Control Files of the AL32UTF8 database character set:

The following error is also displayed in the job log:

"RMAN-03002: failure of alter db command at 08/02/2007 14:57:54

ORA-01589: must use RESETLOGS or NORESETLOGS option for database open"

Solution

Workaround:

There are two workarounds for this issue:

Workaround 1

1. Perform the restore from RMAN using the following script:
Note: This script closes a channel during the process of mounting database.

----------------------------------------------

RUN {

ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';

RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM 'BE_0aiocdeb_1_1';

RELEASE CHANNEL ch0;

alter database mount;

ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch0 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';

RESTORE DATABASE;

RECOVER DATABASE;

RELEASE CHANNEL ch0;

alter database open resetlogs;

}

----------------------------------------------

Workaround 2

Restore from the current database tree after the restore of Control Files fails. Perform the following steps:
Note: This procedure can continue the restore process from the 'RESTORE DATABASE' step.

1. Perform the control file restore.

2. After the restore fails with the errors mentioned above, expand the selection for the database under Restore Job Properties > Selections again.

3. Select the entire database from the "Current Database" view and submit a new restore job.

4. This job also will fail. (Error: ORA-01589: must use RESETLOGS or NORESETLOGS option for database open)

5. Open the database with RESETLOGS option using Oracle Enterprise Manager or sqlplus: (Figure 2)

Use a Web browser to access the Database Control URL:

http://host:port/em

In this example:

* host is the name of the computer on which the Oracle Database is located.

*  port is the port number reserved for the Database Control during installation

If you do not know the correct port number to use, look for the following line in the $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini file:

Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (db_name) = 5500

The database server reserves the first available port from the range 5500 to 5519. For example, if you installed Oracle Database on host dbserver, and the Database Control uses port 5500, enter the following URL:

http://dbserver:5500/em
