Problem
How to install Livestate Recovery 3.0x onto a Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a system.
Solution
The Symantec Livestate Recovery 3.0x allows the agent portion of the product ONLY to be installed on a Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a system; previous builds of Windows NT are not compatible with the Symantec Livestate Recovery 3.0x product.
The Symantec Livestate Recovery 3.0x console, what is use to administer and monitor agents, is not able to be install on a Windows NT 4.0 due to various system requirements not present on this Windows OS platform; attempting to install from the product CD this portion of the product would result in errors or a incorrectly functioning console interface.
The agent portion of the product allows the creation of recovery point images of Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a system to a storage destination; check the user guide
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/symantec_livestate_recovery/3.0/manuals/userguide_server.pdf
for more information on what storage destinations are compatible with this version.
To install / administer an agent on a Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a system use a working LSR 3.0x console following the steps outlined below:
To add a computer to a group
1 Open the Symantec Livestate Recovery console.
2 From the VIEW menu be sure that the following are selected:
- TASK PANE
COMPUTER TREE
BASC VIEW F7 (This will indicate that the console is in ADVANCE view, if the ADVANCE view is present press the function key F7 to return to BASIC view)
3. In the tree pane of the advanced view, click on the group where to add the Windows NT 4 system to.
NOTE: In the tree pane of the advanced view right-click and then click Add Group. Type a name for the new group, then click OK; if a group is not already created for this client.
4. In the tree pane, right-click and then click Add Computer.
5. In the Select Computer dialog box, click Another computer to add a Windows NT 4 system to the group.
6. Click Browse.
7. In the text box, type the name of the domain to search.
8. In the Containing text field, type Windows NT 4 system's computer name.
9. Click Search.
NOTE: The search returns a list of computers available including a list of those computers that are already configured with the agent. The computer search is done in the security context of the current logged-in
user's domain. See "Running the console using different user rights" on page 147 of the Symantec Livestate Recovery 3.0 Implementation Guide.
10. Select a computer from the Results list box, then click OK.
NOTE: If the added computer with a computer name longer than 14 characters, the computer name must be truncated to be 14 characters or less.
11 Select the group the computer is to be added to from the Add to group drop-down list.
12 Click OK.
To remove a computer from a group
1. In the tree pane of the advanced view, open the group right-click on the computer needs to be deleted.
