Veritas Storage Foundation (tm) for UNIX Compatibility with Daylight Saving Time

Solution

======================================================================
To find out how Symantec products are affected by the 2007 Daylight Saving Time changes see:    http://www.symantec.com/dst
======================================================================

The schedule of Daylight Saving Time (DST) was recently changed in the USA and elsewhere.  Veritas Storage Foundation for UNIX extracts time from the OS and from the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) package. The current JRE package distributed with Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0 and earlier is not updated with the new time change data.  As a result the time display may be incorrect if no action is taken (see resolution).  If the user uses the Java console or Web console to look at a scheduled task, the start and end time will be off by 1 hour (for 3 weeks in Spring) during the new extended Daylight Saving Time.  However, this is only a display problem and is cosmetic in nature. The runtime will be correctly handled and there will be no business impact to the customer.

Resolution:

Symantec recommends you take the following actions to ensure the time is correctly displayed in your Symantec product during the revised DST:

1) Ensure you have applied any necessary operating system patches to support the new DST.
2) Apply an update to your Symantec product to support the new DST.
3) If an update to your Symantec product is not available, apply the recommended Symantec or 3rd party patches.

Action Required:

Follow the instructions in this section, depending on the product and version used in your environment.

Veritas Storage Foundation 5.x
Apply Storage Foundation 5.0 MP3 for UNIX (expected to be available in the 3rd quarter, 2008)
For Storage Foundation 5.0 MP2 and earlier do the following:
Apply the Veritas Enterprise Administrator (VEA) 3.3 patch for the 2007 Daylight Saving Time issue for your platform:

Apply the Veritas Enterprise Administrator 3.2 patch for the 2007 Daylight Saving Time issue for your platform.

Linux:    http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/288475

Leap Seconds

Leap Second adjustments are made to UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) to synchronize it with changes in the earth's rotation. These changes may occur twice per year and do not affect the accurate performance of any version of Storage Foundation.

The following vendor information and tools are also available:

Testing:
Symantec has tested and validated the OS patches as well as the Java Runtime Environment in conjunction with Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Cluster Server.

Notes:
These solutions are not mutually exclusive, and a product that has had the vendor tool already applied may still ship the JRE patch without issue. Likewise,  a JRE that has already been patched can have the tool run against it without issue.
