GENERAL ERROR: Library tape drives remain in AVR on all servers after upgrade from NetBackup 5.1 to 6.5

Solution

Overview:
Following an upgrade to NetBackup 6.5, tape drives showed as under AVR control instead of TLD.

Troubleshooting:
Review the output from the  /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -d command on the robot control host (in this case, the master server).  The robotic path should not read "Remote" (bold added for clarity).

Id  DriveName           Type   Residence
     Drive Path                                                       Status
***************************************************************************
0   IBMULT3580-TD21      hcart2 TLD(0)  DRIVE=1
     /dev/rmt/0cbn                                                    UP

Currently defined robotics are:
 TLD(0)     robotic path = REMOTE

EMM Server = master1.veritas.com

The robotic path should be a local SCSI path, such as /dev/sg/c0t0l0.

This entry should not be confused with output referring to a robot control host instead of a robotic path (bold added for clarity):

Id  DriveName           Type   Residence
     Drive Path                                                       Status
****************************************************************************
0   IBMULT3580-TD21      hcart2 TLD(0)  DRIVE=1
     /dev/rmt/0cbn                                                    UP

Currently defined robotics are:
 TLD(0)     robot control host = master1.veritas.com

EMM Server = master1.veritas.com

Log Files:  N/A

Resolution:
To resolve this issue, do the following:

1. Determine proper local robotic path using the following command:
/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/scan -changer

2. Using path provided under "Device Name" for the robot in the output from step 1, run the command:
/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpconfig -update -robot <number> -robpath /dev/sg/<scsi_path>
where <number> is the robot number per the tpconfig output from above, and <scsi_path> is the SCSI data path for the robot from Step 1.

3. Stop and restart the NetBackup daemons.
