Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers Library Expansion Option (LEO) license violation error occurs

Solution

Symantec Backup Exec licensing for multi-drive tape libraries is based on a per drive basis with the first drive in the library or VTL being included in the Backup Exec Server license. For example, a 4 drive tape library or VTL would allow for the 1st drive at no additional charge, while the three remaining drives would each require a Library Expansion Option (LEO) license.  If a LEO License is not entered, the following error will occur. (Figure 1)

Exact Error Message:
Event ID: <58053>
Source: Backup Exec
Type: Error
Description: (Server: "<server name>") Library Expansion Option Violation!

Figure 1

Symantec Backup Exec 12 customers using multi-drive tape library or VTL devices may also experience an unexpected Library Expansion Option (LEO) license violation alert even after the correct number of LEO licenses have been applied. If the correct number of Library Expansion Option licenses has been applied and the license violation alert message still incorrectly occurs in Backup Exec 12.
