Error

0xe000fe29 - Authentication failed on connection to the server. Make sure that the user account has the appropriate permissions and that the password was typed correctly.

Solution

To resolve this issue, please check the following:
  • The password for the logon account defined in Backup Exec should match the password for this account in Active Directory.
  • The account should not be disabled within Active Directory.
  • The account being used to authenticate to this server should be part of the Local Administrators group, either explicitly or via membership of another group.
  • The Remote Agent Service on the server to be backed up should be running under the Local System account credentials, rather than any other Domain or Workgroup account.
  • Ensure when backing up this server via a DNS alias (CNAME record) rather than its computer name or IP address, the registry on the remote server has been modified to allow the mismatch between the DNS alias and the computer name.
  • Verify that the account that originally created the backup job still exists in Backup Exec/Network/Logon Accounts.
  • Create a new backup job, including a new backup selection list and test.
