The Veritas documentation disc provides searchable, HTML documentation for each product in this release. Printable PDF documents are included on the disc in the pdf directory. All documentation is organized by product groups. The documents are also on the disc in PDF format under the product directories. You can view and print selected PDF files using Acrobat Reader.

VERITAS Documentation Disc README

The VERITAS Documentation Disc provides documentation in two formats:

 *  Searchable and Indexed HTML
 *  PDF (Adobe Portable Document format)

To search and browse the HTML versions using the VERITAS Help interface,
select "Search Documentation."

To view or print the PDF files, select "Print Documentation."

The following matrix outlines the document availability for each format:

To install the searchable documentation on your system, select "Install

1. Minimum System Requirements
=====================================================================

The VERITAS Documentation Disc runs on Linux and Windows operating
systems. The documentation and search interface can be also installed
on a Linux or Windows system to eliminate the need for the CD.

Linux
-------
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System
Minimum 128 MB RAM
Minimum 250 MB hard disk space to install the documentation
Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later
  NOTE: Please dismiss any warning message displayed by Acrobat Reader.
        The PDF files are fully functional using the recommended version.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.x or later
 (recommended for faster loading speed)
  NOTE: The documentation disc requires Sun JRE to run properly. Some default
        Java VM installations may not allow the documentation to display proper
ly.
        Download the JRE from http://java.sun.com/javase.

Windows
-------
Windows 2000 Professional or later
Minimum 128 MB RAM
Minimum 250 MB hard disk space to install the documentation
Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later
  NOTE: Please dismiss any warning message displayed by Acrobat Reader.
        The PDF files are fully functional using the recommended version.
Apple QuickTime 6.3 or later
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.x or later (recommended for faster

2. Running the Searchable VERITAS Documentation From CD
=====================================================================

Linux
-------

To open the searchable VERITAS documentation, open a terminal window and
run the "launch" script located in the root directory of the Disc.

To display a list of all printable documentation, open the file
pdfs.html from the root directory in a browser.

Windows
-------

On systems with the CD autorun feature enabled, a menu window opens
when the CD is inserted into the CD ROM drive. The menu window has
buttons that can be used to open the searchable or PDF documentation.

If autorun is disabled, run the launch.exe file from the root of the CD
to view searchable documentation.

To display a list of all printable documentation, double-click the
pdfs.html file from the Explorer window to launch the default browser
with the index of all the printable documentation.

3. Installing VERITAS Documentation on Your System
=====================================================================

You can install the searchable documentation on your system to run
independently of the CD.

Linux
-------
Open a terminal window and run the "installcd" script from the "install"
directory. Follow the prompts to copy the required files.

To run the searchable documentation after installation on the system,
run the "launch" script from the VRTSdocs directory installed under the
chosen installation directory.

To display a list of printable documentation, open the pdfs.html file
from the VRTSdocs directory.

To uninstall, remove the VRTSdocs directory under the chosen
installation directory.

Windows
-------
If autorun is enabled and the menu is launched when the CD is inserted,
click the "Install Documentation" button.

If autorun is disabled, run the Setup.exe file under the "install\win"
directory on the CD.

To uninstall, open "Add/Remove Programs" from the control panel and
select remove "VERITAS Documentation."

4. Notes
=====================================================================

If you run the application from the CD, install Java Runtime
Environment v1.4.x on the target machine to make the application load
faster. The Java Runtime Environment is available at http://java.sun.com/.
