When performing an offhost backup the job fails with the error "0xe0008532 - To use offhost backup, Windows Server 2003, Datacenter or Enterprise Edition, must be installed on the media server and on the remote computer"


Error



Final error: 0xe0008532 - To use offhost backup, Windows Server 2003, Datacenter or Enterprise Edition, must be installed on the media server and on the remote computer


Cause



An unsupported version of Operating System is running on the media server or remote server.
 


Solution




The above error message appears when performing an offhost backup using Backup Exec Advanced Disk-based Backup Option (ADBO).

To perform an offhost backup, the following must be installed on both the media server and on the remote computer:
 
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Standard, Datacenter, or Enterprise Edition) with Service Pack 1 and the most recent Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) patches, or
  • Windows Server 2008 (supported only by Backup Exec 12.0 Advanced Disk-based Backup Option)

 
Note: Offhost backup does not support the following Operating Systems:
 
  • Windows 2000 or lower
  • Windows 2003 Web Edition
  • Windows 2003 Small Business Server
