GENERAL ERROR: References to nonexistent or decommissioned media servers remain in NetBackup.

Solution

After removing storage units, bp.conf and vm.conf entries, entries for servers may still linger in NetBackup and be seen in the GUI - for example, in the device hosts list or in the storage wizard - if the server has not been also removed from the EMM (enterprise media manager) database.

Output from nbemmcmd -listhosts reveals that these servers in question are still included in the database:
# nbemmcmd -listhosts
NBEMMCMD, Version:6.5.3.1
The following hosts were found:
media           <nonexistent_server_hostname>
...

Resolution:
Use the following command to remove a server from the EMM database:
nbemmcmd -deletehost -machinename <hostname> -machinetype media

Refresh or restart any GUIs which are open so that changes may be reflected.

nbemmcmd can be found in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin (UNIX) or <install_path>\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\admincmd (Windows).  For more information on the use of this command, refer to the Commands Guide, linked below.
