Problem
Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) Install fails with error: "Port 10000 is being used by another application" when attempting a push or manual (command line) install
Error
Port 10000 is being used by another application. This port must be open in order to install and run Symantec Backup Exec
Solution
While attempting to either push install or manually install the Backup Exec Remote Agent, the install log shows the error "Port 10000 is being used by another application. This port must be open in order to install and run Symantec Backup Exec".
Resolution:
Confirm if another application/process that uses port 10000 by running "NETSTAT -abno". If YES the issue can be resolved by Either of the following :
1. Change the port used by this application/process or remove it if not needed , If Step 1 is not possible proceed to step 2
2. Using the Services file, change the NDMP port to a different value. For additional Information on this please refer to : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH24256
NOTE: Backup Exec for Windows Servers version 10.X and prior required the NDMP port on the Media server and the one used by the Backup Exec Remote Agent to be the same. For Backup Exec for Windows Servers version 11 and later the NDMP ports for Media Server and Remote Agent can be different if publishing is enabled for the Backup Exec Remote Agent. If the NDMP port is modified, the firewall on the remote server must be modified to allow both inbound and outbound access on the alternate port. The Remote Agent publishes its identity to the media server using the NDMP port.
