How to relocate the CommandCentral Storage database on Windows

Solution

Instructions on how to relocate the CommandCentral Storage database on Windows:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note:  These instructions are with respect to the default installation path.  If you have not installed CommandCentral Storage (CCS)  in the default path, please change the path accordingly.

1. Stop the CCS services by running the "C:\Program Files\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Tools\vx_services_stop.vbs" script.

Please verify that Database server has been stopped by following steps.

  • Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
  • Check the "Adaptive Server Anywhere - VERITAS_DBMS3_<HOSTNAME>" service status.
  • If this service status is shown as Running then please manually stop it.

2. Copy the contents of "C:\Program Files\Veritas\CommandCentral Storage Data" directory to any other directory (ex. G:\CCS_Backup).

3. Uninstall "Veritas CommandCentral Storage".

To uninstall follow the navigation path Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.

Please select the checkbox "Save data and configuration files" while uninstalling CCS to backup the data and configuration. This backup can be useful if by any chance the contents copied in step 2 get corrupted.

Don't uninstall "Symantec Product Authentication Service" or "Symantec Product Authorization Service".

4. After uninstalling CCS successfully, start the installation of CCS again and this time does not opt for default path installation, instead specify a path of the preferred drive which has sufficient storage to accommodate CCS and data backed up in step3.

Please don't reinstall CCS in the same directory where we have copied data in step 2.

(For below all steps, we have considered that user has installed CCS in non default directory "G:\Veritas" in step4.)

5. After the installation of CCStor is successful, please use the script "vx_services_stop.vbs "again to stop all the CCStor services.

You can find the script at "G:\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Tools\".

6. Copy the content of backed up directory (step 2) to replace the CCS data in "G:\Veritas\CommandCentral Storage Data".

7. Search all the files in "G:\Veritas\CommandCentral Storage Data\Conf" directory for the text which contains base path of original CCS installation and replace all those texts with new path where CCS is reinstalled.

Example: In current case, we need to search for the text "C:\Program Files\VERITAS" in all the files of "G:\Veritas\CommandCentral Storage Data\Conf". After that, replace the text "C:\Program Files\VERITAS" in all the files with the text "G:\Veritas".

Some of the files where the path is mentioned are vxas.conf, dmexplorer.conf, vxsicl.conf, SANSRM.CFG.

8. Start the services by running the "G:\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\Tools\vx_services_start.vbs" script.
