Problem
Backup Exec 12.0 Service Pack 1 fails with an error "Error 1314:The specified path \\\d$\Database is unavailable"
Error
"Error 1314:The specified path \\\d$\Database is unavailable"
Solution
Backup Exec 12.0 Service Pack 1 gets interrupted with the error and an Event ID 1023 is generated under the Application Log in the Event Viewer .
See Figure 2
The Installation Log records the following error:
08-15-2008,16:23:29 : V-225-136: The patch failed to install. An alert was unable to be generated to notify the user. ***To search for information about this error, click here <http://entsupport.symantec.com/umi/V-225-136>
Solution:
1. Browse to X:\WINDOWS\Installer (where 'X' stands for the installation drive for Windows)
2. Search for BEInstParams.prm in the Installer folder
3. Rename the BEInstParams.prm to BEInstParams.old
4. Re-run the installation once again.
Note:
BEInstparams.prm is an encrypted file which stores the machine name, domain
name, user account, password and serial numbers of the Backup Exec
installation.
Deletion of
the old BEInstParams.prm and re-running the installation regenerates the
BEInstparams.prm with the new machine name and domain name.
