How to enable debugging for the Backup Exec DB2 Agent

Solution

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

1)  Stop the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Server service on the DB2 Server.

2)     Open Registry Editor, by clicking Start, Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

3)     Backup the registry before making any changes.

4)     Browse to HKLM\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec for Windows\Backup Exec\Debug and change value of VXBSALevel from 0 to 6.

        (6 being the highest level for debug).

5) Browse to HKLM\Software\Symantec\Backup Exec for windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Logging\CreateDebugLog from 0 to 1.

6)   Restart Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers Service.

The log files created by DB2 agent are:

  • Stub trace log
This log file shows if the Vendor Library was loaded successfully and the path from where it was loaded.  It is located at C:/Program files/Symantec/Backup Exec/Logs folder.

The name of the log file would be in the following format:

stubtrac.pid=XXXX.tid=XXXXXX.XXXXXXXXXX.log

  • VxBSA log

These files are created for every backup, restore and for every archive log operation performed on DB2 database and are located at C:/Program files/Symantec/Backup Exec/logs folder.

Name of the log file would be in the following format:
ServerName-vxbsaXX.log
