Solution



Backup Exec 11d revision 7170 Service Pack 3, 4 and Hotfix 38 would install incorrect dll for Remote Intelligent Disaster Recovery (RIDR). This affects RIDR on cross platform only.

The cross platform means that:
  • recovery of remote 64 bit (x64) server from 32 bit (i386) media server
  • recovery of remote 32 bit (i386) server from 64 bit (x64) media server
  • recovery of remote 64 bit (IA64) server from 32 bit (i386) or 64 bit (x64) media server

Permanent Resolution:

This issue has been fixed in Backup Exec 11d revision 7170 Service Pack 5.

Temporary Resolution:

To resolve this issue, please follow these step.

1. If Service Pack 3 or Service Pack 4 is not yet installed, install it to media server and all of remote servers first.
2. Download the zip file in this document then replace files mentioned below on the media server.
3. Get full backup of the remote servers on the cross platform.
   It is also recommended to get full backup of all servers which includes media server.
4. Start the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Preparation Wizard then create IDR CD for each platform and OS version.

The date and times listed below are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).  When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Three platforms of beerrors_EN.dll are contained in the zip file. Those are placed in idr\disk4\{PLATFORM.EN_US} under Backup Exec installed folder on both 32 bit and 64 bit media server.
Backup Exec installed folder is "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\" by default.
