How to correct the error "Alert log file is corrupt" in VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) for Windows NT

Error



Alert log file is corrupt.

Solution



To resolve the error "Alert log file is corrupt", perform the steps detailed in one of the following two options:

Option 1
1. Click on the Events tab (Figure 1)

2. Right click anywhere in the Events window
3. Choose Set Event Log Size from the pop-up menu (Figure 2)

4. Note what the current value is and change the value to zero
5. Click OK. Repeat the steps above to open the "Event Log Size" window and change the zero back to the original value to re-enable event logging  

Option 2
1. Open the Control Panel by clicking on Start | Settings | Control Panel
2. Open the Services applet
3. Stop the VxSvc process by stopping the Disk Management Service (Figure 3)

4. Open Windows NT Explorer and go to the directory where Volume Manager is installed. The default path is C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volume Manager 4.0\
5. Delete the file named VxSvcAlert.log
6. Start the Disk Management Service
