Issue

AVVI Agent Backup Job completes with exception "Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images".

Error

Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images.

Cause

Cause 1: A Non-Windows guest machine is being backed up.

Cause 2: There is an unformatted disk attached to the guest machine.

Cause 3: The VMware vstore2 driver to mount the virtual disks wasn't installed properly.

Beremote debugging will show the error "Driver not found" during the backup if cause 3 is the issue.

Solution

Solution 1:
When backing up non-Windows guest machines, deselect the AVVI GRT (Granular Restore Technology) feature as GRT is not supported for non-Windows guest machines.

Solution 2: Peform either of these steps :
a) Format the disk.
b) Remove the disk.
c) Deselect the AVVI GRT feature..

Solution 3:
a) Reinstall the Vmware agent in the media server.
b) Run a repair install of Backup Exec. If the repair doesn't resolve the issue, try the repair install with a different Administrator account.

NOTE: These solutions are not related to each other. Only implement the solution that matches the Cause being experienced.
