How to list the clients which are using licenses within Veritas Backup Reporter (VBR)

Solution

Overview:
One way in which Veritas Backup Reporter is licensed is based on client count.  If you open the VBR GUI and navigate into Settings > Global Settings > Licensing it is possible to see how many "Veritas Backup Reporter Clients" are Licensed vs how many are Current (currently used).

It may be useful to know exactly which client hosts account for each used client license.

Resolution:
These are the steps to configure a custom report to show a unique list of client names which account for each used client license.

1. Launch the VBR GUI and navigate into Reports > Backups > Custom > Backup Job > Tabular
2. From the Available Columns window, select Job Client (under Backup Job Attributes) > Hostname (under Host Attributes)
3. Under Selected Columns - configure Job Client for a Sort Order of Ascending and Operation of None
4. Under Selected Columns - configure Hostname for a Sort Order of None and an Operation of Distinct
5. Under Time Frame - configure Time Basis for No Timebasis
6. Drill down under Filter > Host & File Systems > place a check in the box next to Host Discovered Backup Clients and set it to YES.
7. Run the report.

This will generate a report which will list each client name which is occupying a client license.
