I. Download Backup Exec
c. Click on the "I Agree" on End User License Agreement
d. Select the Language for Backup Exec for Windows Servers
e. Select the option "HTTP Download" and click on continue
f. Select the appropriate version of Backup Exec (32 BIT and 64 BIT) & click on Begin Download.
II. Installation of Backup exec for Windows Servers(11d, 12.0 and 12.5)
a. Extract the files from the downloaded .Zip file to a folder.
b. Locate the file "Browser. Exe" from the installation folder
c. Double click on the file "Browser. Exe" to launch the Backup Exec Installation program
d. Select the option "I Agree" to accept the End User License Agreement and then click "Next" to continue the installation process.
e. Select the components to install for Backup Exec for Windows Servers . By default "Local Install" is selected. If "Remote Install" is selected, it Push Installs the Backup Exec Media Server and other agents to any Remote Server. Click on "Next" to continue.
f. Backup Exec for Windows Servers Installation program will run the Environmental Check and provide the report of the server configuration and conflicts with Backup Exec to avoid further complications. After completion of the Environmental Check , the Install program will display a summery for the available server configurations and required configurations. Click on "Next" to continue.
g. Insert the License Numbers and then click on "ADD". If there are Multiple License Numbers then insert one by one and click on Add every time after inserting the keys. If no License Numbers are inserted, Backup Exec will be installed in "EVALUATION MODE".
h. Select the Agents or Options to be installed with Backup Exec . When inserting the license keys for agents, for example, Microsoft Exchange Agent or Microsoft SQL Agent, and/or Oracle agent , the respective options will get selected automatically and can be seen grayed out and CANNOT BE MODIFIED. If installing Backup Exec For Windows Servers without inserting any License keys (Evaluation Mode), then the options must be selected manually.
Note: The default location of the Backup Exec Installation folder can be changed from c:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec. Click on "Next" to continue.
i. Provide a user name, password, and domain for an Administrator account that the Backup Exec System Services can use, and then click Next (Specify the Domain Name if installing in a Domain or specify the Server Name if installing in a Workgroup). Click on "Next" to continue.
j. To create a local Backup Exec SQL Express instance .Click Create a local Backup Exec SQL Express instance to store the database on. To change the location of the Backup Exec SQL Express instance, click Browse. Select the location, and then click OK.
To use an existing SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 instance, click Use an existing SQL Server 2000 (SP3a or later) or SQL Server 2005 instance on the network to store the database on and select the instance.
Note: When Backup Exec is installed into an existing instance, the automated master database restore feature is not available.
To recover the Master Database, replace it with the Master Database copy that Backup Exec automatically creates and updates when the Master database is backed up.
Click on "Next" to continue.
k. Select how the Symantec Device Driver Installer should install the device drivers for the tape storage devices that are connected to the server, and then click Next. It is recommended to select Use Symantec device drivers for all tape devices.
l. Read the Backup Exec installation review, and then click Install. The installation process takes several minutes to complete. During the process, the progress bar may not move for several minutes.
m. If prompted Click on "Continue Anyway" on Device drivers
n. When the installation is complete, view the readme, create a shortcut to Backup Exec on the desktop, and restart the computer. The options of "Run Live Update to check for any available updates after the System Restart " and "View Readme after System Restart" can be unchecked before clicking on FINISH
o. Please check the services after rebooting the server. All services Must be started and under Automatic mode including SQL Service (BKUPEXEC) service
An installation job log named bkupinst.htm is created in the Application Data folder on the computer where Backup Exec is installed. This file lists any errors that may have occurred during installation. The last line of the log indicates if the installation was successful and that the computer should be restarted.
