Problem
"Failed to update DNS entry (error_type:28, error_code:0x00000007)" reported for Veritas Storage Foundation High Availability for Windows.

Observations:

Depending on
what attributes are set for the LanMan resource within the Service group :
If
DNSUpdateRequired = Will log message, but LanMan resource will still
online
If
DNSCriticalForOnline = Will log message and LanMan resource will fail to online
(fault)
The "Failed
to update DNS entry (error_type:28, error_code:0x00000007)" error appears in
Lanman_A.txt log file located under %VCS_Home/Log/Lanman.txt log.
Error code
0x00000007 is a standard return code for "The storage control blocks were
destroyed."
This message
indicates that the DNS server was unreachable or rejected the request. This has
been observed in cases where additional DNS servers have been added to the
AdditionalDNSServers attribute. Ensure that the IP of the DNS server is
correctly entered into the AdditionalDNSServers attribute of Lanman.
