Publishing from BESR management control to the Backup Exec System Recovery Manager (BESRM) fails with the following error.

Error E339197C: An error occurred while publishing. System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Unable to register computer. Cannot update computer . ASA Error -209: Constraint 'CKC_LSR_TYPE_MACHINE' violated: Invalid value for column 'lsr_type' in table 'machine' Unable to register computer


Solution



The Error E339197C and ASA Error -209 are caused by a corrupt install of Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) and the Management Control. Typically the issue is seen if there are remnants of a past install or keys missing in the Windows Registry. 
 
 
Perform the following steps to resolve the issue:
  
1) Run the uninstall scripts for all versions of BESR that has been installed on the machine. The links are provided below.
  
2) Go to Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery Management Control.
  
3) Remove the following BESRM keys if present from the Windows Registry by running REGEDIT.EXE
  
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows Registry Editor can have disastrous results on a server Operating System. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows Registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the Registry Editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

On 64 bit servers, the registry keys location is different from the 32 bit environment as shown below:

4) Reboot machine and reinstall BESR and the Management Control utilizing the EASYINSTALLER.EXE
 
5) Reboot and confirm the machine is now present in the BESRM
