Solution



The purpose of this technote is to provide an example of how to move your data from one array to another using Volume Manager


We have for example the following configuration



dg mydg default default 98000 1100727367.1363.xxxxx


dm dt04ln01 c6t26d43s2 auto 2048 209704704 - << OLD ARRAY
dm dt04ln02 c6t26d41s2 auto 2048 209704704 - << OLD ARRAY
dm emcpower142 emcpower142s2 auto 2048 278909184 - << NEW ARRAY
dm emcpower143 emcpower143s2 auto 2048 278909184 - << NEW ARRAY


v data04 - ENABLED ACTIVE 304054272 ROUND - gen
pl data04-01 data04 ENABLED ACTIVE 304058368 CONCAT - RW
pl data04 data04 ENABLED ACTIVE 419409408 CONCAT - RW
sd dt04ln01-01 data04-02 dt04ln01 0 209704704 0 c6t26d43 ENA

All the data is currently on dt04ln01 and dt04ln02

We need to move the data to the new disk which are emcpower142 and emcpower143.
(Please following the "Veritas Volume Manager Administrator's Guide" on now to add disks to diskgroup)

To migrate the data, we can use the vxassist mirror command:

# /usr/sbin/vxassist -g mydg mirror data04 alloc=emcpower142,emcpower143

After mirroring has completed, the volume will now look like the following:


v data04 - ENABLED ACTIVE 304054272 ROUND - gen
pl data04-01 data04 ENABLED ACTIVE 419409408 CONCAT - RW
sd dt04ln01-01 data04-02 dt04ln01 0 209704704 0 c6t26d43 ENA
sd dt04ln02-01 data04-02 dt04ln02 0 209704704 209704704 c6t26d41 ENA
pl data04-02 data04 ENABLED ACTIVE 304058368 CONCAT - RW
sd emcpower142-01 data04-01 emcpower142 2560 278906624 0 emcpower142 ENA
sd emcpower143-01 data04-01 emcpower143 2560 25151744 278906624 emcpower143 ENA


We can now delete the old array to complete migration.


First to we to break the mirror:

/usr/sbin/vxplex -g mydg -o rm dis data04-01


Then we remove dt04ln01 and dt04ln02 from the diskgroup:

# /usr/sbin/vxdg -g mydg rmdisk dt04ln01
# /usr/sbin/vxdg -g mydg rmdisk dt04ln02

Our completed migration configuration will now look like the following:

dg mydg default default 98000 1100727367.1363.xxxxx



dm emcpower142 emcpower142s2 auto 2048 278909184 - << NEW ARRAY
