Issue

Backup of Oracle RAC (Real Application Cluster) database(s) fails with the error "The Database script returned an error. Refer to the Database script output section in job logs for more details".

Error

Backup of Oracle RAC database(s) may fail with the above mentioned error message if the Remote Agent for Linux/Unix Servers (RALUS) for Oracle is not configured properly to reflect the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) of the Linux Server and the Media Server in Ralus.cfg. RMAN output section in backup job log shows the following information:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RMAN-00571: ==================================================
RMAN-00569: == ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ==
RMAN-00571: ==================================================
RMAN-03009: failure of Control File and SPFILE Autobackup command on ch0 channel at 12/15/2008 11:43:21
ORA-01580: error creating control backup file /oracle/backup/online/15Dec2008_0415/snapcf_<RAC-DBName>.f
ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cause

Above issue may be encountered if RALUS for Oracle is configured to use IP address to access the RAC Database for backups.

Solution

To resolve the issue configure RALUS for Oracle using AgentConfig script on the Linux Server to reflect the FQDN of the Media Server and the Linux Server.

For more information on how to configure the Remote Agent for Linux/Unix Servers for Oracle backups from Linux Server please refer the related section.
